Addendum.

Now for the messy, tedious bit. All that excess filler has to be removed. I started with a Dremel, then mainly used needle files and emery cloth (usually wrapped around needle files). It takes a very long time. Finally, I substituted 180 grit wet and dry emery cloth, and then gave the whole frame a thorough scrub under running water with a couple of scotchbright pads. The end result is quite pretty.
